What is a CMDR Colorado Mountain Dog?
The CMDR Colorado Mountain Dog is a livestock guardian breed developed for smaller farms, focusing on reducing behaviors that often cause issues in traditional guardian dogs. CMDs are known for their calm demeanor, reduced barking, friendly acceptance of farm visitors, with a lower tendency for wandering. These traits make them especially ideal for small acreage Homestead environments. who has a friendly temperament and enjoys meeting people. They are gentle with children, and despite their size, they adapt well to inside living as they bond closely to their owners and love to be part of their family. Derived from working dog stock, the Colorado Mountain Dog defends their master’s borders against animals of prey that may attempt to take stock. Two dogs are needed and recommended where there is a larger predator load and more than two dogs are recommended in an area where larger prey such as mountain lions or packs of wolves or coyotes are of a concern. They are ideal for farms or larger ranches. CMDR Colorado Mountain Dogs are often white, although you can find them in other beautiful colors such and Black, Silver and Brindle. They are typically tall and lean with a medium length, self-cleaning coat that is easy to care for. Sometimes, depending on breeder lines, some CMDR Colorado Mountain Dogs can be excellent Service dogs and tremendous hiking and camping companions for families that are more active and like having a larger dog for protection while having adventures in the wilderness. The breed is still in development, with a strong focus on temperament and guarding abilities over physical appearance.
What is a Caspian Mountain Dog?
The Colorado Mountain Dog is the developmental stage of the Caspian Mountain Dog. For a decade and a half, thousands of these dogs have spread across the country. We’ve pulled in the desired traits from landrace LGDs. Our breeders have prioritized function, temperament, intelligence, guarding abilities, and small farm suitability, over what the dogs look like, though we have always kept an eye to type. Caspian Mountain Dogs are Colorado Mountain Dogs who have met standard.
Here at Abundairy Farm at Pine Ranch, we have one designated Caspian Mountain Dog standing at stud; CCH Perrin of ABF.
MEET CCH Perrin of ABF
CMDR Registration # CCH023M0009G3CASP
CCH Perrin of ABF is an exceptional sire whose presence, temperament, and working ability set him apart. A clean-legged, silky-haired, silver-barred, black male with a striking wolf-like appearance, Perrin is an impressive 32 inches at the shoulder and carries the strong, balanced and athletic structure associated with the Colorado Mountain Dog standard.
Beyond his physical presence, Perrin’s temperament is truly outstanding. He is genetically clear of all known issues, including CT, and demonstrates remarkable stability and intelligence. Perrin barks only when necessary, respects fencing, and shows exceptional self-control around dogs in heat. He is calm, discerning, and naturally authoritative, maintaining harmony within the entire pack with ease.
Highly intelligent and eager to work, Perrin is easy to train and deeply loyal. He is a natural guardian—steady, confident, and trustworthy. His protective instincts are measured and appropriate, escalating only when truly warranted, making him a dog that I NEVER doubt and I know ALWAYS has my back. It’s no surprise that Perrin consistently becomes a favorite among ranch visitors.
Perrin’s offspring have proven his value as a sire. His pups demonstrate an impressive range of working ability, with individuals excelling as therapy dog candidates, livestock and predator mitigation dogs for mountain lion, wolf, and bear, and one young female already successfully dispatching a coyote independently. Across the board, his pups display strong work ethic, intelligence, confidence, and exceptionally friendly dispositions.
If you are looking for a stud to bring ability, excellent temperament, athleticism, and size to your litter, Perrin is an outstanding choice.
